What Is Squib Islands?

Squib Islands is a closed species Art Roleplaying Game (ARPG), home to the Squibs!

In this ARPG, your goal is to create art based on certain critera to earn Kelpos, our in-game currency. With Kelpos, you can purchase new character slots, upgrade characters, and collect companions. Our goal is to encourage both creativity and skill growth! Artists and writers of all levels are welcome to take part.

Terms and Definitions

ARPG: Art Roleplaying Game. A community-based game where you need to create art to progress and earn rewards. Players build their characters' stories through writing and art, guided by the provided prompts.

CS: Closed Species. A type of "original species" or "fictional creature"  where you need a slot, or MYO, to create your own character. Staff must approve a character as meeting the design rules to ensure consistency.

MYO: Make Your Own. An in game item, also called a MYO Slot, that gives you the permission to create a character.

Trait: A feature or aspect of a character that must be selected from the pre-existing list of traits. Each trait is defined with a rarity.

Rarity: Our rarities are Common, Rare, and Legendary, in order of most common to least. Common traits are free to use, but all of those above require Trait Upgrades or an upgraded MYO Slot. Additionally, we have Exclusive traits, meaning the trait needs to be obtained a special way (e.g., a character being a certain subtype).

FTO: First-Time Owner. Refers to a user who has never owned a character or MYO Slot from the Squib Islands ARPG.

Prompt/Quest: A special challenge/criteria/scenario provided in the ARPG for users to complete and earn rewards. 

Event: A limited-time activity with exclusive prompts, rewards, and more.

ARPG Currency: An in-game currency that can be used to purchase in-game items. Our main currency is Kelpos.

Obtaining a Charater

In the Islands, there are a few ways to obtain new characters!

I. FTO Questline (WIP)

Complete a series of prompts in order to recieve a free FTO MYO. 

II.  ARPG Participation

Purchase a MYO Ticket with ARGP currency. This includes, but isn't limited to, Pelago Farms for Kelpos and limited-time shops during events.

Additionally, there is a FTO MYO in the Pelago Farms shop for slightly cheaper, if you prefer to skip over the questline! 

III. Real-Life Currency

MYO Tickets can be purchased directly on Squib Islands through the Premium Shop, starting at $20 USD. 

Official Adopts can be found in the Sales Tab, and information about customs can be found on the Official Customs page.

IIII. MYO Events

Occasionally, Squib Islands will host events where you can earn a MYO for free! Event news is posted in the news tab and on the Discord server.

III. Companion Creation

To create a companion, you are required to have the related Companion MYO Slot. An overview of companions and how to obtain them can be found on the Companions page.

A detailed list of companions can be found in the encyclopedia. All species listed, aside from Squibs, are companions.

I. Dailies

These are activities that can be done every day, at the click of a button! Find dailies here.

II. Prompts

Prompts are activities where users are required to make a submission based on certain criteria. By creating art or writing, you can make a submission and earn the prompt's rewards as well as additional art or writing criteria rewards! Many prompts can be completed with NPCs or other user's characters with gift art/writing enabled; eligibility can be checked in the prompt description. 

Prompts can be found here; please make sure to read the prompt description before submitting! Each prompt will earn additional rewards based on the piece submitted, and those rewards are detailed on the Art & Writing Rewards Guide!

Although this is entirely optional, it is highly encouraged!

In our Discord server, you can meet all of your fellow Islands enjoyers, or hang out from a distance (no pressure!). There's a multitude of channels for sharing art, writing, discussing your characters, and trading or selling. Additionally, there will be occasional raffles and giveaways exclusive to the Discord server. Staff will also share occasional teasers or create a poll for users to be the deciders of a new addition to the site. Furthermore, Discord is the best place to reach out if you come across a bug or have a question.
